First Evangelical Free Church of Maine is an independent, self-governing body, which is affiliated with the Evangelical Free Church of America. United by a mutual commitment to serve the Lord Jesus, we are committed to cooperate with one another in Ministry and fellowship as we fulfill the Great Commission.
This cooperation is extended beyond the denomination to all evangelical churches. As an “evangelical” church we mean that we are committed to the proclamation of the gospel unto the authority of the Scriptures as being inerrant in the original autographs and the only safe and sufficient guide to faith and practice.
“Free” refers to our form of church government, which assures that local churches are free from a central controlling body. The Free Church of America consisting of over 1200 autonomous churches sharing common purposes, principles and practices. The Free Church includes a worldwide ministry of 500 long-term and 500 short-term missionaries in over 30 nations around the world.
As a community of believers in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, we believe that out of His great love for us, God sent Jesus, the sinless God-man, to die on the cross in our place. Christ’s bodily resurrection confirms that His payment for our sin was complete and acceptable to God and satisfied the just demands of His holiness.
We believe all who sincerely acknowledge they are sinners before God and accept Christ, as their savior by personal trust in him alone for their salvation will receive a free gift of eternal life, which can never be lost.
“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God – not by works, so that no one can boast.” Ephesians 2:8,9.
