Registering and Posting

We already have several members who have registered for the sight, so I guess I should give more input. When you register, you will receive an email which provides you with the Username that you entered when you registered and a Password. Once you receive the email with your Username and Password, you will be able to log in and update your profile information which also gives you the chance to change your password to something that you will be more likely to be able to remember. And finally, when that is completed, you will be able to post to the site and comment on posts that make comments available. Your posts and comments will not appear on the site right away, because I will have to approve them first, but that should happen fairly quickly. If you would like to have an avatar (picture) that will appear by your username when you make comments, you can set one up at gravatar.com that can be used on other networks as well.

The process is fairly intuitive, and you do not need to be a computer programmer, however you will most likely need to be comfortable using a computer because there are a lot of options. When you make a post to the site, you will have an option to select a Category for your post, and if you do not select one your post will automatically be categorized as Uncategorized. All posts are set to default for allowing other registered users to make comments, so if you do not want to allow others to comment on your post scroll all of the way down to the Discussion heading and un-check the box for Allow comments on this post. Please leave the box for Allow trackbacks and pingbacks on this post un-checked because that allows people from other sites to comment on our posts, and we would rather not do that.

The video below gives a brief tutorial on how to make a post. It is by no means all inclusive, but is sufficient for anyone to make their first post. Before starting the video you can set it to full-screen by clicking the icon with the four arrows in the lower right-hand corner. You can also make the image quality better by clicking the on button in the upper right corner if you have a fast internet connection.  When you have finished, you can press the [Esc] key on your keyboard to exit full-screen mode.

The next video gives a quick overview of adding media to your post. Please be selective about this, because we will not want to upload really large files to our server. As noted in the video you can also link to other content that is already on the web. Remember, all of your posts will be previewed before they actually appear on the site.

You can make a quick and easy post by using the QuickPress option in the upper right corner of your dashboard, or you can do a lot more customization by clicking on the New Post button at the top of your dashboard.  There is also a lot of information available at , http://codex.wordpress.org/Writing_Posts
